FIA GT1 WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP
In 2010 there are four Nissan GT‐Rs competing in the brand new FIA GT1 World Championship. Two cars
are being campaigned by each of our customer teams: Sumo Power GT and Swiss Racing Team (SRT).
Nissan's motorsport arm, Nismo, was one of the first manufacturers to commit to build a race car to the
new 2010 GT1 regulations. The Nissan GT‐R race car was tested extensively in Japan, Malaysia and Europe
before embarking on a four‐race programme in the 2009 FIA GT Championship. Running to the 2010 GT1
regulations the Nissan GT‐R wasn't expected to compete against the 2009 GT1 cars but nevertheless the
car took a podium finish at the Spa 24 Hours in July 2009.
In 2010 the Nissan GT‐R competes against the top models from five other iconic brands: the Aston Martin
DBR9, the Corvette Z06, the Ford GT, the Lamborghini Murcielago R‐SV and the Maserati MC12. The Nissan
GT‐R is already a race winner.
FIA GT1 WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP
The FIA GT1 World Championship is one of four FIA‐sanctioned global motorsport series. ‘GT1 World' has
joined Formula One, World Rally and World Touring Cars as one of the top four motorsport World
Championships.
Six manufacturers are competing with forty‐eight of the world's top sportscar drivers at racing circuits
spanning the globe in a prestigious championship that is the pinnacle of sportscar racing.
Nissan is proud to be part of such a forward‐looking competition. After just a few races the momentum is
building, audience interest is growing and the Nissan GT‐R is already a race winner.

NISSAN: OFFICIAL CAR SUPPLIER TO THE FIA GT1 WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP
The four Nissan GT‐R race cars are not the only Nissans that can be seen on track at the FIA GT1 World
Championship events as Nissan is also the Official Car Supplier to the championship.
Nissan supplies four cars to SRO, the organisers of GT1 World, at every event. One of the company's highperformance
cars, usually a Nissan GT‐R, is used as the Safety Car, with another, usually the Nissan 370Z
taking the role of Leading Car that leads the race cars around prior to the rolling start of each race.
Nissans are also used as the Course Car and Medical Car at each event.
As Official Car Supplier, Nissan has a great platform to showcase its range of cars alongside the Nissan GT‐R
race cars.

THE RACE WEEKEND*
Every race weekend consists of two 60‐minute races: a qualifying race on Saturday that determines the grid
for the main championship race on Sunday where the big points can be scored.
On Friday the teams have an 80‐minute Free Practice session, followed by another 80‐minutes of Pre‐
Qualifying.
The hour‐long Qualifying session takes place on Saturday and is run in a similar format to Formula One
qualifying, albeit with the two drivers for each car taking turns. The nominated ‘First driver' takes the
wheel for the first 20‐minute session, known as ‘Q1', after which the eight slowest cars are eliminated.
These eight take up positions 17 to 24 on the grid for the qualifying race.
The ‘Second driver' jumps in for ‘Q2', which takes place after a seven‐minute break. This session runs for
15 minutes and at the end of it the eight slowest cars are eliminated and invited to take up places 9 to 16
on the grid.
After a further eight‐minute break, the first driver gets back in the car for the pole position shootout, a 10
minute flat out race for pole. This decides the all‐important top eight positions on the grid for Saturday's
qualifying race.
The nominated second driver takes the start of the qualifying race on Saturday. There is a mandatory pit
stop during this race to complete a driver change and change all four tyres. This takes place between the
25th and 35th minutes. The top three finishers in this race score championship points as below. Also, the
finishing order sets the grid for the championship race on Sunday.
The first driver starts the main race, which also includes another mandatory pit stop during which the
second driver will take over. The top ten finishers in this race score championship points and the top four
will be allocated success ballast.
Success ballast is awarded to maintain close racing among all of the cars. The ballast is removed as soon as
you have a lesser result so it helps, along with the Balance of Performance programme, to maintain a level
playing field.

The maximum allocation of standard success ballast is 100kg. However, if a car running 100kg of success
ballast wins a race it will have to run 150kg at the next event. The extra 50kg is removed if the car doesn't
win the next event.

ABOUT NISMO
Nissan Motorsports International Co., Ltd., Nismo in short, was founded in Shinagawa‐ku, Tokyo in 1984 as
Nissan's official motorsport arm.
Nismo has participated in various levels of motorsport competition as the Nissan works team, and also
provided technical support to Nissan partner teams and privateer entries. The victory in the 1992 Daytona
24 Hours and third place overall in the 1998 Le Mans 24 Hours are the highlights of its international race
results, while in Japan, Nismo has been actively involved in GT racing for many years and is known as one of
the strongest race teams in Japanese Super GT, winning seven championship titles in 16 seasons.
